Billirubin Baby

The morning we were supposed to check out of the hospital the pediatrician told us that Elle had intermediate to severe jaundice, so under the billi-lights she had to go. They made me hurry and feed her and then told us she would be under the lights for three hour periods, then they would bring her back for me to feed her again and back under the lights she would go. It was 7 in the morning and they said they would have to do it until 6 that night. Luckily we had such a nice nurse that worked it out so we could stay in our hospital room until Elle was done with the lights. We got to go to the nursery to visit her, but it broke my heart to see her alone under the lights with her googles on. The poor thing was in the dark almost the whole day. So at 6 oclock that night they finally discharged us to go home! But for the next three days I had to pack her up early in the morning and take her to the hospital to be weighed and have her blood drawn. One of the times I had to go to the lab at Alta View hospital. They were remodeling so they drew her blood out in the lobby with construction workers cutting tile next to us...somethings not right with that picture! Luckily by Saturday they felt like her bilirubin levels were decreasing! We are glad our jaunt with jaundice is over!
